How To Send Promotional Emails WITHOUT Annoying People

We’re Kennedy and Fifi, and today we're going to unpack this together and help you send those emails with confidence!

The Fear of Annoying Subscribers

For many marketers, the fear of coming across as pushy or annoying can be paralysing.

You might hesitate to hit “send” because you worry about irritating your subscribers or appearing too salesy. But here's the thing: this fear often stems from overthinking how others will perceive our actions.

Kennedy shared this lesson from an assertiveness training:

“I am not responsible for other people's feelings, I am responsible for my actions.”

This means you can't control how someone will react to your email. Some people will appreciate the information and offers, while others might not. The key is to focus on your actions and intentions, not how others might perceive them.

Understanding Subscriber Expectations

When subscribers sign up for your list, they're opting in to hear from you.

They expect to receive emails, including promotional ones. In fact, when Kennedy wasn't able to send one of his (promised) daily emails due to unforeseen travel circumstances, he got emails and messages from genuine subscribers wondering why they hadn't heard from him. That just shows how your subscribers expect, and often look forward to, receiving your emails.

Your job is to ensure that your emails provide value and align with what your audience expects.

Shifting The Perspective

Instead of fearing the worst, consider the positive impact your emails can have. Each email is an opportunity to:

  • Inspire Action: Remind your audience of important aspects of their business, like email marketing.
  • Recalibrate Focus: Help them remember their goals and the steps needed to achieve them.
  • Offer Value: Share insights, tips, or offers that can genuinely benefit your subscribers.

All in all, your goal is simple; don't let fear hold you back from sending promotional emails.

Remember, you're providing value to your subscribers, and those who appreciate your content will continue to engage. Focus on the positive impact you can have and trust that your intentions will resonate with those who need to hear them.

Subject line of the week

This week’s subject line is “F-ing Stupid Hats”.

This was sent as part of a promotion celebrating Kennedy's recent birthday, where the sales video had him wearing a traditional party hat. The subtle expletive was enough to spark curiosity and intrigue, without breaking an trust or personal boundaries in his subscriber's inbox.

Additionally, there's a lot of compound curiosity working in this one; What was the hat for? Why are there multiple? What makes them F-ing stupid? Lots of questions in here.
